What a way to finish the 2026 NZ Club Division 2 National Water Polo League!

A hugely successful trip to Christchurch saw both our Makutu Men and Makutu Women finish the season as Division 2 National Champions, bringing home DOUBLE GOLD for Marist! 🥇🥇

💪 Makutu Men

The men completed an outstanding UNDEFEATED national league, taking out the 2026 Division 2 title in style. After a strong 15–12 semi-final victory over Waitakere, the boys met a determined Harbour City side in the final. Following a spirited contest, Marist held their composure to secure a 14–11 victory and cap off the 2026 season in perfect fashion.

A huge thank you to Paul Swindells for his leadership and guidance throughout an exceptional campaign. The blend of experienced campaigners and exciting young talent proved to be a winning combination from start to finish.

🔥 Makutu Women

The women also finished the season in gold medal position, earning the overall Division 2 title through their consistency across all three rounds.

After holding their nerve in a thrilling 10–8 penalty shootout victory over Mountfort Park in the semi-final, the team battled all the way in a fantastic final against the home Canterbury side, narrowly going down 9–10.

Under the steady guidance of player-coach Rachel Swindells, the team delivered consistent performances throughout the season. With a wonderful mix of emerging young players and seasoned veterans, the women demonstrated resilience, teamwork, and determination every time they hit the water.

Congratulations to all of our players, coaches, managers, officials, and supporters. To have both Makutu teams crowned 2026 Division 2 National Champions is a testament to the depth, culture, and spirit of Marist Water Polo.
