Marist Water Polo is one of New Zealand’s oldest and most successful water polo clubs. Based out of the Sacred Heart pool, we have over 400 players registered from Under 12’s to Senior Players. Marist Water Polo: Coach Development Manager – Job Description 

Purpose:

The Coach Development Manager (CDM) provides strategic leadership, mentorship, and structure across the full Marist coaching pathway, encompassing all grades and genders. The role is central to ensuring consistent delivery of the club’s vision and values, while actively mentoring coaches, supporting their development, and fostering a sustainable coaching structure through recruitment, succession planning, and targeted development initiatives.

Operating in a mentoring and developmental capacity, the CDM uses poolside time to observe coaches in action, provide structured feedback, and promote alignment and consistency across programmes. The focus is on elevating coach capability which, in turn, drives individual and team player development.

 

Key accountabilities of the role are:

  • Ensure a quality framework is in place across all our programs
  • Set and implement programs for player development to increase both individual and team skills
  • Develop and support coaches to write session plans which align with the player development program and optimum performance at Nationals
  • Support coaches with player selection and managing players expectations and behaviours
  • Identify coaches’ aspirations and support them to work towards these
  • Develop and implement a club “program strategy” which includes additional programs outside age group seasons (i.e. Academy, swim training, out of season sessions) which result in a strong cohesive pathway for players
  • Create a succession plan for coaches, so we always have appropriately skilled coaches in for all programs

The exceptional coach we are looking for will have:

  • Coached at a high level and commands respect of teams at all levels
  • An understanding of the WPNZ program and requirements
  • Proven experience mentoring and coaching coaches
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to inspire players across all age groups>
  • A strong alignment with the Marist vision and values
